Instant Better! Stem Processing

from $15.00

At the heart of our collection is a rack of original Universal Audio 610 modules—tube mic/line amps originally designed by Bill Putnam as an all-in-one solution for studios building consoles on a budget. It was revolutionary at the time to build a mic preamp, line amp, EQ, and attenuator into one module that was easily swappable and lived in the console desk. We find this design remains revolutionary today because it lets us access a tube-based, vintage console signal flow in one module. The 610 has a lot of gain, simple EQ curves that sound glorious, and a tonal quality that is so exciting and sounds, for lack of any better technical terminology, truly magical.

Our “Instant Better!” service is an experiment in offering the magic of the UA 610 to the broader music-making community. We have found that beyond being incredible tracking preamps, the 610’s impart warmth and dimensionality to stems and full mixes. We’ve heard them completely transform a track recorded with reissue and boutique modern equipment and we’ve used them at length ourselves for enlivening synths and virtual instruments.

Stems/mixes can be processed “flat” at unity gain (with two modules meticulously level matched) or with EQ and/or gain adjustments. Flat is subtle, while the more the gain is pushed, the more significant the sonic signature of the 610’s. The EQ is a low shelf at 70 hz (-6 or +6) and a high shelf at 7 khz (-6, +3, or +6).

Mono stem processing is $15 per stem under 5 minutes ($20 for 5-10 minutes)

Stereo stem or mix processing is $30 per stem/mix under 5 minutes ($40 for 5-10 minutes)

INSTANT BETTER! AUDIO SAMPLES

Stems are processed once a week and sent back within 24 hours of processing. Next processing day is Thursday September 25th! Checkout and send your files by end of day on the 24th to be included in this week’s run.

When you submit your order, please include your email address and we will contact you same-day with file transfer instructions and to confirm any EQ/gain adjustments. Stems will be processed at 96k/24-bit unless requested otherwise.
